The Trouble With Trees
While trees are beautiful and offer valuable shade from the Louisiana sun, they can also be dangerous when not properly maintained. Does your church have rotten trees, or trees with rotten tops and limbs? When is the last time you had a qualified arborist look at your trees? One of the more frequent claims we see is a tree, located on church property, that falls or drops a rotten limb and damages church property or property owned by someone else. If the tree is rotten, the church, as the property owner, has a duty to maintain a safe premise. When the church fails to do this, you are negligent for the damage the rotten tree caused. It takes just a few minutes to walk your property and inspect for dead trees, dying trees or tree tops, and dead limbs. If possible, hire a qualified tree surgeon (arborist) to inspect your trees and remove rotten trees and limbs. While damaged fences, houses, and cars can be repaired, the possibility of a large limb hitting a child or person would likely cause serious injury. If this happens, you better get an attorney.
